Nehalem Camping Trip

So I know I'm skipping over some stuff. I'm waiting to post about the wedding until after I have my wedding photos. If you need a sneak peak go to http://www.wayfarerstudio.com/.

I'm also skipping over the whole vacation with the Griffiths. Jennifer did a great job summing it all up and my post would look almost identical to hers. So if you're curious, http://jjromney.blogspot.com/2011/07/our-seaside-vacation.html. There's also more posts about the wedding and when they were all in Portland so look around in the July section.

The rest of my time since they left was spent in a four week, INTENSE genetics course. Seriously, a whole 12 week term's worth of stuff in 4 weeks. I had a midterm week 2, week 3, and the final week 4. I made it through, I passed, I'm taking the rest of the summer off.

This past weekend Chad and I went camping out on the Nehalem River. My aunt and uncle have a place out there and the weather was supposed to be in the high 80's or low 90's. On the way out there we decided to stop by the cheese factory and eat some cheese. We also loaded up some toothpicks with some of the favorites and made sandwiches for lunch in the parking lot. We finally made it out to the spot around 6pm, set everything up, and enjoyed the beautiful evening. The sky was so clear and there were a million stars out. I slept great, woke up at 6am, and was ready for the beautiful day to come.

Well, it was cloudy. Now here at the coast, we normally have cloudy mornings then it burns off. We built a fire, had some hot cocoa, and waited. Around 9am we finally had sun!! It was still cold but I put on my swim top and sat in the sun. I was determined to get some color!

Around 10 I was ready for a nap. I wanted to take a blanket to the beach, lay out and sleep. We got ready and left. Then we saw this...
I was so sad! We went to the beach anyway, just to make sure this wasn't just a lone cloud. Well...

On the way back to the car, which Chad walked barefoot, he almost stepped on a bee! I saved him being the good wife that I am.

Sometimes the clouds do this amazing thing and go around the river to hug the mountains. This means that my aunt's place stays sunnier than the surrounding areas. Not this time. It stayed cloudy and a little chilly the rest of the day. It wasn't miserable at all and we still had a lot of fun but we missed the nice weather. Chad fished off the dock while I read. We played cards having a blast with High Low Red Black. We do much better with games with no clear winner, we both get our feelings hurt if we lose, lol.

Later that afternoon we found this spot that you can jump into the river off these higherish rocks. I thought they were plenty high, Chad wasn't as impressed. We had to walk down these abandoned railroad tracks and it was an adventure. The spot was so beautiful though.

We hung out by the fire for the rest of the night then watched a movie on my laptop in the tent. It never rained but still was cloudy then next day. We stayed until about lunchtime then headed home.

Next weekend Chad has 5 days off so we're planning on trying again. Hopefully the sun will fight harder to make an appearance.
