Liam got to go on his first vacation to California!
We left on July 31st, one day before he turned 3 weeks and it was also his Nana's birthday! Our plane took off at 5:50 pm and we arrived in California around 9 pm. I was nervous to bring an infant onto a plane but Liam did amazing! He slept the whole time except for two short nursing breaks. We utilized the pacifier to help his ears adjust during take off and landing. He got a lot of attention from everyone because he's so cute :)
Cindy and Keith met us at the airport and they were so excited to meet Liam in person. Cindy was a good mom and hugged Chad first but then the Nana in her took over and she held Liam until we got to the car. Liam decided that he was starving then and we had to pull over to nurse before heading to the house. Then he decided that since he took such and awesome nap on the plane, he wasn't going to be tired for bed. We were up super late and he didn't want to be put down. Needless to say, when we woke up the next morning Chad and I were exhausted.
Wednesday was "show off baby day." Nana and Papa had to work so we met them for lunch at Upper Crust Pizza. Chad always runs into people he knows when we eat there and today was no exception. We showed him off to the people at the office and they loved him. After lunch we did a bunch of shopping to prepare for the rest of the family to come and for the family reunion. We had so many things to get we ended up at several different stores. I was so tired by the end of the day and Liam was a little more cranky than usual with all the running around we did. He spent too much time in his car seat and wanted extra "mommy/daddy time" in the evening hours. He eventually settled down and got a decent nights sleep.
Thursday night we tried a new sleeping technique with Liam. I've been putting him on his back every night because of the whole "back to back" issue. I'm not a fan, I slept on my tummy and so did pretty much everyone else in my family and we all survived. He's not a fan of his back either. So on to his tummy he went and he slept sooooooo much better. He went 4 hours straight before he woke to nurse, then 4 more hours again. Then I caved and put him in bed with me on his back and he only slept 2 hours. I think I'm officially changing over to tummy sleeping for his sake and mine.
We woke up early that morning and Chad took his mom to the airport. She had to go to Utah to attend her nieces wedding. While he was was there he went to pick up Beau to come up to spend the day with us. He moved down to San Diego awhile ago and we all miss him. I was excited for Liam to meet his cousin. We started our adventures swimming in the backyard. Well, Chad and Beau swam. I dangled my feet in the pool and Liam hung out in shade in his bouncy seat. We met Keith for lunch and when he got off work we took the jet skis out to Oceanside to go ride in the ocean. Chad and Beau went first and Keith, Liam, and I hung out on the beach. Liam slept the whole time and I enjoyed having the time to chat with my father-in-law. When the boys were done we switched and Beau hung out with Liam while Chad, Keith, and I went out. I rode on the back of Chad's and we had so much fun. We saw sea lions in the harbor and out on one of the buoys. Chad had some fun and we jumped over waves and did all sorts of fast scary things. I liked some of it, I didn't like some of it. I think I'd like it better in a lake where its not as choppy and I'm not terrified of falling in. There are sharks in that water! We ate some fish n' chips on the pier and headed home. Beau spent the night out at the house with us.
Friday we woke up and drove Beau back to his place. I really liked where he lived and it was fun to see his new place. When we got back home we had a relaxed afternoon. Liam and I took a nap and Chad went swimming and helped put some things together for when the rest of the family got here. That evening Keith, Chad, Liam, and I went and got some dinner and then saw the new Batman movie. Keith had already seen it so he agreed to leave if Liam started to get fussy. My baby proved once again that he's an angel because he slept for the whole movie. We brought a bottle with us so he could eat if he was hungry. He only drank about 1/2 an ounce and was content. The movie was really good and when we left people were shocked that there was an infant there. The people behind us told Chad that they thought he was a fake doll because he was so quiet. The only problem was that since Liam took such a great nap from 7:30 to 10:30pm, he was up until about 1am before he was ready to crash.
Saturday was another relaxed day. Chad helped his dad with some work around the house. Liam and I took a long nap. We went to the beach for a little bit and Papa watched Liam while Chad and I took a walk down the beach. Even something as simple as walking holding hands is so nice to do with my husband sometimes. That evening Jennifer and her whole family arrived. I was very excited to see the kids again and meet the new addition Lena. She's so cute! We put her next to Liam and compared their sizes. She's a chunky monkey and Liam's still super tiny. It'll be so much fun for him to have cousins his age as he grows up. Adelyn and JR have also gotten so much bigger. JR loves Liam and loves that he is a boy. He kept repeating over and over "Liam's a boy!" He is so sweet to him too. Adelyn is going to be a great mommy someday and does a great job entertaining the babies.
Sunday we woke up and went to church. It was Liam's first time. He did pretty well and everyone loved seeing him. Chad grew up in this ward so many people have known him since he was a little kid. They really enjoyed seeing how well he was doing and meeting his son. We stayed for the 2nd hour and Liam started fussing. I took him into the mother's room to nurse him and he ended up peeing through his diaper, all over his clothes, and all over me. Chad and I decided that was the time to go home. When everyone got back we ate some lunch and went out to a car show they were having in Vista. There were some little carnival rides that Adelyn and JR went on. They went on two inflatable jungle gyms and a spinning ride with Chad and a little roller coaster with Keith. They liked everything except the roller coaster. Jen and I were waiting with the babies and we could hear JR shouting "I'm done!" for the majority of the ride. We walked around and saw a couple neat cars and then ate some shaved ice. Liam decided to have a cranky evening and that wasn't that much fun for us. It makes me feel bad when I can't console him. He finally calmed down after spending some time being held by his Auntie Jen and then crashed for the night.
Monday we had a pretty relaxing day at home. Chad went and worked with his dad for a good portion of the day. Jen, me, and the four kids met them for lunch. After lunch Liam and I laid down for a great afternoon nap. When we woke up we went with Jen and Lena to a baby store to look at a few things. We didn't end up finding anything good but it was still a fun trip. Cindy came home that evening and we all went out to dinner at a restaurant called Islands. It was really yummy. Liam had a great night and slept for 5 hours straight. It's the longest he's gone at night so far and I was amazed and thrilled with the rest. He's doing really good at keeping his days and nights right.
Tuesday Chad went to work for a few hours in the morning and then we all went to the beach. We had a tent for the babies and me to hang out in. Adelyn and JR played in the waves, caught some sand crabs, and built a sand castle. Everyone except Liam ended up a little sunburned. Chad was by far the worst. After a few hours we were tired and headed home. Chad had some more painting to do (it was too hot during the day and the paint kept drying in the pan) and I went to help him get it done faster. Liam stayed with his Auntie Jen and slept the whole time for her. We were only gone for a little more than an hour but I missed him like crazy. We got back and I was able to shower all the paint off before Liam was ready for his bedtime meal. He had another great night of sleep.
