Chad and I just got back from celebrating our birthdays,
anniversary, and upcoming birth of our child by spending Sunday through
Wednesday at the beach. We were spoiled with beautiful weather for almost the
whole time.
It wasn’t nice on the drive out there and I almost wanted to
cry. Like it was raining so hard we had our windshield wipers on high and still
couldn’t see that well.
Our first stop was the Tillamook cheese factory for some
samples and some ice cream cones J
Then we got all checked in and went for a walk down on the
beach. The wind wasn’t blowing so it felt pretty warm. Chad even took off his
shirt to try to get some color on his pale, Oregon skin.
After our walk, Chad just had to get some crabbing done. We
drove down to a pier in Garibaldi and spent roughly an hour and a half down
there. He didn’t catch anything except a couple of eels. It was a tad windier
down there so I bundled up a little more but it was still sunny and nice.
Monday we woke up and it was cloudy and drizzly. We started
off the day with yummy coffees from a local espresso shop. Then we decided to
drive up to Seaside. First Chad had to go down to the Barview Jetty to throw in
his crab pot for the day. Then we made the drive north. On the way up we
decided to stop by Cannon Beach and check out Ecola State Park. We have tried
to go here before when we were checking out places to have our wedding. It’s a
pay-park and we didn’t want to spend 5$ just to look at it so we never got in.
This year Chad bought a state park pass for his disc-golfing adventures so we
were able to finally go in. It was beautiful there. There were plenty of
beautiful views and we walked around a bit. We’ll definitely have to go back
when I’m not 9 months pregnant to check out the many hiking trails they have.
Then we went to Seaside. We walked around, went to a few
stores, played a round of mini-golf (I won!), and ended the day with some ice
cream cones.
On the way back to the hotel we went and got the crab pot.
Nothing! It’s not far enough in the season for them quite yet but he still had
to try. I waited in the car instead of trying to walk out on the jetty and a
squirrel tried to jump into my window. He looked like he’s used to being fed by
people but I’m not trying to get rabies so I rolled up my window and took some
pictures. Sure enough, on the way out we saw another car feeding him crap.
We ended the day with a fire on the beach. Of course what
goes with a campfire… smores! My favorite! We were also blessed with a
beautiful sunset.
Tuesday we made the drive up to Astoria to get some
cupcakes. If you went to our wedding last year, you know the ones. We had to
eat some in celebration while we were there because it’s a long drive from
Portland. On the way we stopped at The Sandtrap for lunch and took some picture
of our wedding site (almost) one year later. It was a great afternoon of
reminiscing over the past year.
Wednesday we woke up, packed, and headed home.
Besides all these fun activities, we also spent a lot of
time swimming in the pool, walking around town, going to little shops, and
spending time out on the beach. The trip was so relaxing and needed. I love my
husband so much and it’s been such a fun and wonderful first year of marriage.
I’m excited to spend many, many more with him. He truly is my best friend in
the world and I wouldn’t be the woman I am without him.
