So today I had my 28 week appointment with my midwife. I have officially begun the 3rd trimester of this pregnancy.
Seriously, the 2nd trimester FLEW by...
So the details from today:
I was worried because people keep telling me how small I am. It was giving me a complex and I thought something was going to be wrong with the baby. I am measuring 29 cm, I just have a long torso so he can hide better (as the midwife put it).
I only gained about half a pound but my belly seems to grow every day.
I'm still eating like crazy. I'm hungry right now. The best tasting things for me are: chocolate (of course), apples, cereal (esp Lucky Charms), ice water, and lots of other things depending on the day.
I did the glucose tolerance test... I think I got lucky because everyone kept telling me how nasty it is and how its the worst part of pregnancy and all the other bad things you can think of. I seriously thought it was going to be horrible. I had to start the drink at 8:50 am and I finished it in 5 minutes. I didn't know it was going to be a flavored one, I got lemon-lime. It just tasted like really sweet cheap soda without the bubbles. It was still gross, don't get me wrong, but not as bad as I expected. I also learned an important lesson... if I have to get blood drawn, do it in the arm that I don't have to use to write all my notes from my two classes at school. It's sore tonight!
I also had to get a shot. I have A- blood and that - means my body can potentially attack any future children if they have + blood. So this shot stops me from making antibodies and I need one more shot during delivery. This one I was smart enough to get in my left arm.
And saving the best for last...
His beautiful little heartbeat. It always amazes me when we hear it. We got a special treat this time too. She put the thing on my stomach and found it right away. She said he was close to the surface and she was right over his heart. We heard the normal thumps but also this weird extra noise, almost like a click. It was his heart valves opening and closing. His heart is doing good things and that makes me happy.
We're now at the point where we'll be having an appointment every two weeks. We also have some parenting classes coming up. So lots of fun things ahead.
